Adopting a baby is something we've talked about for a number of years and in November of 2004 we officially started the long, detailed and sometimes intrusive process. There have been many ups and downs, lots of paperwork, meetings, and dreams but the time has finally come, we are in the homestretch. Follow along as we become a family!

Gotcha Day!!

July 3rd-4:35pm China Time
Today was the day we've been waiting for. It was actually a longer day than anticipated as we were awake from 2am. We were ready long before our pick up time which gave us lots of time to build up the anxiety, butterflies, excitement etc. At 9am we met Mamie in the lobby to go to the civil affairs office to meet Jenna. There was another family from Toronto and one from Holland there just after we arrived. The first baby to arrive was Jenna and her Nanny. We new right away it was her! She was quiet but not hesitant to come to us. We got to meet one of her nannies and the director of the orphanage. Mamie got lots of information about her food/sleep schedule. The director brought some formula and rice cereal that she is used to eating as well as a photo album that included a photo of her the day she was found, some pics of her at the orphanage and some pics of around the orphanage. This was a surprise to us and were very grateful to have them. The director gave hios permission for us to visit the orphanage tomorrow so we just need the go ahead from the civil affairs office...Mamie is working on that and we'll find out tomorrow morning when we go back to do....MORE PAPERWORK! After we recieved Jenna we went back to the hotel to fill out more paperwork and get to spend some time getting to know Jenna. We've learned quickly that she loves to be held close, in fact she is sleeping on Tom'sd shoulder as we speak right next to me. She loves bananas as you can see by the smile in one of the pictures. We managed to get her changed, fed and even a nap in this afternoon. Not bad for our first 7 hours! It's good to finally have her in our arms, there's a lot of passing back and forth as she seems quite content with either of us for now. We look forward to getting back to the other Children's Bridge families in Beijing and the interaction with them. Jenna is going to love coming home and having someone to play with. We're hoping her cousin Avery will be around to help out.
One of the pics is of Jenna and the nanny that brought her. It is before we recieved her. The group photo has the director beside Sue, The nanny beside Tom and Mamie on the end. Hope these pictures will tide you all over till the next post. We have tons but have to pick a few to post at a time.
Thanks for all the well wishes from everyone, it keeps us connected to home and we're counting the sleeps till we're home.
Love Sue, Tom and finally Jenna!!
